Description:
NWT Salthouse Marshes is one of a string of important birding sites along the north Norfolk coast. A shingle bank protects it from the ravages of the North Sea. 66 ha. of coastal grazing marsh and saline lagoons.
Directions: NWT Salthouse Marshes is north of Holt on the north Norfolk coast. It is 2km east of Cley-next-the-Sea on the A149 coast road. There is no NWT car park, but parking is available in the car park adjacent to the road to the east of Salthouse village.

What to look for:  Black-tailed godwit, ruff, redshank, lapwing, avocet, snow bunting, shore lark.

The accommodation is a two room apartment on the ground floor underneath the arches (see below).

Access to the apartment is separate from the house, through a patio at the back, which faces south and is part of the rented accommodation.

In the bedroom: . One bed is against the north window looking out across the marshand, and the other by the south window looking out onto the small patio. Bed linen and towels are provided

Any basic provisions could be got in before you arrive for your first breakfast if you order it in advance. The local post office stores is sadly closed now forever.
The Dun Cow in 1905

The Dun Cow, 1 minutes walk across the green, does excellent meals.


The famous 'Cookies Crab shop' also does sea-food meals.

Holt is three miles inland, and The Cley Marshes Nature Reserve is two miles to the west along the coast road - Blakeney a mile further. For maps see the menu at top of page and click on 'maps' or here to see where the sea lies in relation to the marsh and village
